Amnesty Bus Stop Ad Knows If You’re Looking

This ad for Amnesty International called Eye Tracking was recently installed on a bus stop in Hamburg, Germany - featuring a built-in camera and eye-tracking technology. When no-one is looking, the ad displays an image depicting a case of domestic violence. Once the camera detects an onlooker, it switches (after a delay), showing the same couple looking rather happy and normal.

The ad picked up the Cannes Lions 2009 Outdoor Silver Award and seems to make use of technology similar to that built into many digital cameras for blink and smile detection.

This is a brilliant use of technology that dramatically intensifies the ad’s already powerful message. I hope we see more interactive ads like this in the future.

iPhone 3G running OS 3.0 unlocked, ultrasn0w release coming Friday

The iPhone Dev-Team (no relation) have been teasing us for a little bit now with what they've been saying is an iPhone OS 3.0-compatible version of yellowsn0w, and tonight in a video presentation they unveiled ultrasn0w, which should let you unlock any iPhone on the market, running any version of the firmware from 3.0 on down. The trick to how they're getting the jailbreak hasn't been revealed yet for fear of Apple making a fix at the eleventh hour, but if everything goes according to plan, the new hacking software should be out Friday in time for the iPhone 3G S (no guarantee it'll work on the new device). Hit up the link to watch the magic happen right before your very own eyes.

Michael Bay update: Imax version "longer cut and more robot fighting"

Taken from his blog

06/07/2009 10:14 PM
Hey everyone,

In Japan today. After a month and half seven days a week most days going till midnight me and my crew have just about finished Transformers. I have never seen such a level of dedication from every crew member in a movie before.

Even today after the press in Japan and right before the premiere tonight, I have to sneak out to a digital house to approve the last few effect shots.

It has been a long hard road, but really fun one to travel. What you will notice that is strikingly different than Transformers 1, is the level of animation detail. The robot characters (42 in all), you really can feel empathy for them. What is also very different is the sheer scale of the movie. We have been very tight holding back much of the best imagery in commercials and trailers.

The way to see this movie is on IMAX. Never before has there been 4k rendered character animation shot on full IMAX 70 mm film. This is a first and the results are stunning. You will see Optimus Prime in a few shots where he is actually perfectly to scale on the IMAX 50 foot tall screens.

For IMAX, I created a slightly longer cut with more robot fighting. Four scenes were shot on IMAX cameras so the screen will fill the full IMAX screen for these scenes.

Haters beware.

Michael

Nintendo “Kuro” Wii

The innocent white demeanor of the Nintendo Wii is set to undergo an overhaul with the upcoming release of the “Kuro” version Wii. Taking on a dark, sleek look, the color is a departure from the usual cute Mario fanfare that is often associated with Nintendo. The black version will release first in Japan on August 1st, 2009.
